Shen Sifu Integrative Medicine is developing a community acupuncture clinic designed to bring accessible, high-quality care to LGBTQ+ patients and underserved communities in New York City. The clinic will operate on a sliding-scale fee model, making acupuncture treatment available regardless of income or insurance status.

Community acupuncture is a model of care in which treatments are delivered in a shared, open-room setting at significantly reduced cost — typically between $15–$50 per session, often on a sliding scale. Rather than charging the full private-practice rate, community acupuncture clinics make room for people who might otherwise go without care.
This model has roots in the people's health movement and has grown into a nationwide network of accessible clinics. It allows practitioners to see more patients per session while keeping individual costs low — without compromising the quality or attentiveness of care.
LGBTQ+ people and people of color face documented disparities in access to healthcare — including complementary and integrative care like acupuncture. Financial barriers, cultural barriers, and experiences of discrimination in clinical settings keep many people from receiving care that could meaningfully reduce pain, support recovery, and improve quality of life.
This clinic is an effort to close that gap in one small but concrete way: offering real clinical acupuncture, delivered with affirming, trauma-informed care, at a price point that reflects a commitment to community health rather than just private practice economics.
The clinic will follow a standard community acupuncture format: patients sit in chairs in a shared treatment space and receive individualized needle placement while resting quietly. Sessions are typically 20-30 minutes. The shared setting keeps costs low while preserving a calm, healing environment.
Treatments will be provided by Ray Sheen, DAc, LAc, LMT — a licensed acupuncturist with doctoral-level training and a clinical focus on pain management, neuromuscular conditions, and affirming care for LGBTQ+ patients and people of color.
We are actively working to bring this clinic to the West Village. Sign up above to be notified when sessions are available, including information on location, scheduling, and sliding-scale rates.
